Running in the rain
After Sunday’s rain dance, this evenings run in the damp weather wasn’t that bad. It does remind me that I should get some trail shoes that have a little more traction in the muddy sections that I run on but it doesn’t stop me from getting out there. Tonight I thought I’d try to pick it up for a bit, even though I was feeling pretty tired when I got home. I’m on vascular surgery now and while it’s not too bad (aside from the 8hrs thoracic aortic aneurysm case yesterday) it’s harder to grab something to eat. The result? I end up going 10-12hrs without eating anything meaningful and I’m wiped at the end of the day. It may also help explain why I have a sore throat (my immune system has finally succumbed to the hospital). Back to the running.
On my way to the park I convinced myself to try something a little faster since I took it easy yesterday and I’ve been running fairly consistently the past 6-7wks. I chose one of my favorite workouts that complimented my fatigue and lack of real speed training: 20×200 @ 10K time with 30″ rest. Splits: 38.4, 35.7, 36.2, 37.2, 36.7, 36.3, 36.8, 36.3, 35.5, 37.6, 36.2, 35.7, 36.7, 36.7, 37.0, 37.3, 35.6, 36.4, 36.9, 37.3 (avg 36.6). Not too shabby and I’m sure a more realistic estimate of my 10K time is closer to 37′30″ but I’m pleased nonetheless. I’ve got to start somewhere. 15 pull-ups and 50 push-ups at the end, core strength to come later.
